Dust and no wind
The 420 kilometers against the clock on Sertões day 3 this Tuesday promised a high-speed stage between Barra do Garças and São Miguel do Araguaia. However, what the X Rally Team drivers Cristian and Marcos Baumgart experienced was a struggle with the powder lifted from the UTVs that started ahead. Cristian and Beco Andreotti, in the NWM Ranger V8 #301, fiinished the day in P3, while Marcos was only sixth.
The results keep Baumgart/Andreotti in the lead of the Sertões, 5min10s ahead of Spinelli/Haddad. Marcos and Kleber Cincea dropped to thrid position overall. “Today was supposed to be flat out all the way, but the dust coming from the UTVs, that would not let us past, was so thick that we had to lift”, says Cristian.
“It is dangerous. Some places where we normally reach 180 kph we had to go not faster than 100, sometimes 80, and sometimes we even had to stop and wait the powder to settle”, Marcos completed. “We could not fulfill the potential of the car today because of the dust, and because some of the UTVs drivers would not let us past”, he highlighted.
As both of the Baumgart brothers pointed out, the most important was to bring the Rangers home in one piece. “There is still a lot to go”, Cristian finishes.
Day four of the Sertões take the competitors from São Miguel do Araguaia to Porto Nacional, covering a distance of 571 kilometers, with 277 of them in the stage.
