Marcos and Kleber P5 on Dakar day 2
The second day of competition in the Dakar showed the traditional level of toughness, as drivers, co-drivers and riders faced a 342-km stage in the Peruvian dunes from Pisco to San Juan de Marcona.
X Rally Team’s Can-Am 412 UTV of Marcos Baumgart and Kleber Cincea finished the stage in na excellent fifth position, only six minutes behind the stage winners. “Difficult navigation, a lot of rocks hidden in the sand. We came in a safe pace, no risks, and we finished in a very good position. We are still learning about the limits of the equipment, and the Dakar is only in the beginning”, says Marcos.
However, in the Can-Am 398, Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti faced electrical issues for the second day in a row. Losing a lot of time, the duo managed to get to the finish 40 minutes behind the leaders. “We had to stop about 20 times to fix the electricity of the car. As we found a safe position to attach the harness to the rolling cage, we could do the final 120 kilometers with no problems whatsoever. Now we know what to fix so we do not lose any time anymore”, highlights Cristian.
Dakar’s day 3 comprises almost 800 kilometers between San Juan de Marcona and Arequipa, in a 331-km long special.
