Podium finish for X Rally Team in South Africa

Dupla do X Rally Team vai ao pódio na África do Sul

Marcos Baumgart and Kleber Cincea started their season in a positive way in the South African Cross Country Series (SACCS). The X Rally Team crew that won the first round of the Brazilian Cross Country championship a week ago, flew to South Africa to race in Dullstroom, two hours away from Johanesburg, in the Mpumalanga 400.

Racing a T Class Ford Ranger V8 4x4 with T1 FIA specification, exactly the same one that won two consecutive Rally dos Sertões in Brazil with Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti, Marcos and Kleber joined the NWM Motorsport duos, lead by the drivers – and Brothers – Lance and Gareth Woolridge.

The race itself had a 48-km prologue, in which the Brazilian duo made two little mistakes and finished 12th. Overnight, heavy rain and a sudden temperature drop, left things more difficult to everyone on Saturday with lots of mud and low grip in places already considered difficult in dry conditions.

Marcos and Kleber finished the first 170-km lap in sixth place, and the tough conditions made the event organization cut the second lap – on Sunday – to only 72 kilometers. Experience and team work showed results, and the Brazilians finished third overall, behind Lance Woolridge/Ward Huxtable with the NWM-Ford Ranger, and Richard Leeke/Henri Kohne, with a BMW.

“It was too slippery. No grip at all”, pointed Marcos. “We came here to learn and finish the race, so we were a bit careful since the beginning. To finish third was fantastic, a great result for us and for the team as well, since the level of this championship is extremely high. It was a great experience”, he said.
