X Family Rally Team wins again in Sertões
Nothing is easy when you have two pieces of information in Sertões road book: first leg of marathon stage and Bagagem River. These are two evidence characteristics that deserve extra care. The marathon stage is because the vehicles cannot be maintained by the team at the end of the day and the Rio Bagagem is a crossing full of stones that has caused headaches for many competitors in the past.
This Monday (2), the competitors who accepted the challenge of the biggest rally in the Americas had to face these conditions and those who did better were the pairs of the X Rally Team that race with the Toyotas Hilux IMA, prepared by Overdrive. Marcos Baumgart and Kleber Cincea finished the 353km timed between Brasília (DF) and Minaçu (GO) in 5h25min27s, overtaking teammates Cristian Baumgart / Beco Andreotti in 41 seconds. Cristian and Beco continue to lead the competition after two stages played with a 1min19s advantage over Marcos / Kleber. The top-3 of the overall finishes the pair formed by Sylvio de Barros and Rafael Capoani, also from the X Rally Team, on board the X Rally Ranger.
“It is a privilege for me to win a stage named after Renê Melo, it will go down in history, there is no price to pay for it. It was a demanding special and the tight difference between us and Cristian / Beco shows that. It was decided on the details, but the important thing is that the party stays at home ”, celebrated Marcos Baumgart, three-time Brazilian champion of Cross Country Rally.
The oldest of the Baumgart brothers reinforces the level of demand for todays special. “It was a difficult, complex special, the Bagagem River has a lot of stones and requires attention. It was a full day, there was rain, a smooth stretch, a dry, winding stretch, jumping ... and it was very pleasant. It is tiring, but it is part of the rally ”, evaluated Cristian. “Marcos and Kleber are to be congratulated, they won the special Renê Melo and we are very happy with that. We won as a team on his behalf today, ”he added.
Renê Melo was passionate and enthusiastic about motorsport and off road, participated in Sertões and died on May 3 this year after years of fighting cancer.
The Sertões caravan makes its overnight stay in the bubble set up in the city of Minaçu, in Goiás. The competitors will have to sleep in tents and tomorrow they will leave for the third bubble of the script, still in the State of Goiás.
