Baumgart brothers in the lead
X Rally Team brothers Cristian and Marcos Baumgart are in the lead of this year’s Sertões after the second day of competition in a 530-km stretch between Costa Rica (MS) and Barra do Garças (MT). Cristian, a three-time champion, won the stage and leads the way with a 4min10s margin on his younger brother.
“For us it was a day to push hard no matter what”, said Cristian, who races alongside his long-time co-driver Beco Andreotti, with whom he won the previous three editions of the Sertões. “It is our strategy. The pace has been good, the car copes with the pressure. We only had to push and stay focused and hydrated because of the heat”, he completed.
Marcos opted for a different strategy. “It was a long and gruelling stage. We thought it would be better to bring the car home because we still have six days to go”, he pointed. “Today was physically challenging, to say the least”, said the two-time Brazilian cross country champion with co-driver Kleber Cincea.
This Tuesday, competitors face 727 kilometers between Barra do Garças (MT) and São Miguel do Araguaia (GO), with 420 kilometers against the clock.
