X Rally Team wins the first stage of Sertões 2020
The three-time champions of Sertões have nothing to complain about the start of Sertões 2020. After being the fastest in the prologue yesterday, the pair formed by Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti pulled the line at the exit of Velocittà (Mogi Guaçu/SP) towards Brasília (DF) this Saturday (31). The Toyota Hilux IMA # 304 pair completed the 205km of todays special in 3:42min19s, 4min19s faster than teammates Marcos Baumgart and Kleber Cincea. The X Rally Team also closed the top-5 with Sylvio de Barros/Rafael Capoani on board the X Rally Ranger.
The highlight of the day was due to the look of the Serra da Canastra, in Minas Gerais. The region received the start of the timed section, but still in the radar zone. "I regret that in the first sector we had to do in radar. It was a wonderful place, with a lot of audience watching. Ive never seen so many people in a special, a wonderful region ”, commented Beco. “But talking about the special, it was a faster, looser stretch, with a lot of navigation. We came confidently, cautiously and taking advantage of this ship. It was the first day and there is still a long way to go until Barreirinhas ”, completed the navigator of car # 304.
For Cristian, the first kilometers of Sertões served for the pair to start adapting to the car. “The first stage was very smooth, had many cliffs and had to be very careful. We are still getting ready in the car, lets start to see the results. The first leg was in a radar zone, so we only had 100km accelerating and that’s nothing in a rally this big, ”said Cristian, who before Sertões won the Baja TT Capital of Wines of Portugal in his first contact with Toyota Hilux from Overdrive .
On board the X Rally Team car # 303, Marcos and Kleber had a mistake at the start of the special, but then came back with everything to end the day with the second mark. "We had a little mistake at the beginning of the special that cost a little time, but then we got into the rhythm of the race and we were enjoying the moment until the end of the stretch," said Marcos, who is three times Brazilian champion in Rally Cross Country.
Browser Kleber Cincea enjoyed the first day, but plans to increase the pace. “It was a good lap. We are still understanding the rhythm of the race. It was a very high day, a lot of stone, a quick test ... easy to do nonsense, but we managed to complete it well and we will increase the pace in the next special ”, evaluated Cincea.
The day ends with a 580km trip to the federal capital. On Sunday (11/01) Sertões pauses in the competition so that the support teams can move smoothly to Brasília, where the rally leaves for the state of Goiás on Monday (11/02), when the specials will resume.
